Maintains constant surveillance of DCC members and their guests in and around the pool facilities; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of DCC members and guests in the event of an emergency.



  • Arrives to work on time, ready to work.
  • Supervises and observes swimmers at all times to ensure their safety in and around the pool facilities.
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Administers care to swimmers' minor injuries, such as small cuts and bruises.
  • Ability to understand and perform safety and emergency procedures.
  • Enforces rules at the pool to create a safe and fun environment for all.
  • Informs Pool Manager of unresolved member or guest disruptions that could cause a safety problem.
  • Assists Pool Manager with games during special events and pool parties.
  • Performs required pool opening and closing duties.
  • Ensures poolside chairs and tables are orderly and cleans up soiled towels and trash on the pool deck and surrounding areas.
  • Maintains amenities in and cleanliness of locker rooms, bathrooms and showers.
  • Maintains daily sign-in sheets and other reports.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related tasks assigned by the Pool Manager or Youth Director.
  • Presents professional appearance and positive attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
  • Attends meetings and in-services as directed by the Pool Manager or Youth Director.



  • One year previous lifeguard/swim instruction experience preferred.
  • Individuals must be enthusiastic, hard-working, and willing to develop a positive rapport with children and adult members.
  • Participation in special functions such as sports camps, holiday pool parties, and home swim meets is required.
  • Preference will be given to those with availability from mid-May through mid-September.
  • Position shifts will mostly fall between 9:30 am and 8 pm, seven days a week.
  • Must be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid. (Can be provided if needed.)
  • Must be certified as a Water Safety Instructor or similar certification to teach swim lessons.


 Part-Time or Full-Time openings. Must be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid or we will certify if the applicant is able to swim 300 yards continuously and be able to retrieve a 10lb brick from 10 feet of water and swim 20 yards with it and must be able to tread water for 2 minutes without using hands or arms. Must be at least 16 years old to apply.
